As the world grappled with unprecedented global lockdowns, the pastoral community of the Foursquare Church faced a crisis of survival. The announcement of a new Giving Tuesday event on May 20, 2020, presented an urgent opportunity for Foursquare Disaster Relief (FDR) to mobilize resources.
FDR sought the expertise of Pillar Brands to create a campaign that would quickly raise funds to alleviate the food insecurity affecting their global church partners. A campaign that would soon galvanize substantial support and make a tangible difference.

Faced with the challenge of breaking through the prevalent doom-and-gloom messaging of the pandemic, we saw a chance to tell a different kind of story. Recognizing the power of personal stories, we launched the Adopt a Pastor campaign, which shifted focus from despair to hope by showcasing the real-life testimonies of pastors affected by the crisis. With the narrative foundation laid in previous collaborations with FDR, we knew these stories of struggle were powerful—but they needed to be told with hope at their heart. Pillar swiftly devised a strategy centered around the strength and resilience of the human spirit.

A Unified Visual Language

Our designers quickly established a sub-brand, Adopt-A-Pastor.org, with a compelling visual identity resonating across digital and physical touchpoints. We also created a dedicated website that served as the central hub for engagement, storytelling, and donations, providing a steady stream of updated content that kept the campaign fresh and engaging. This cohesive branding was crucial in creating a strong, immediate connection with potential donors.

Pillar implemented a dynamic content strategy that included bi-monthly emails and weekly social media posts designed to maintain engagement and momentum long after Giving Tuesday. Each piece of content was crafted to resonate emotionally, blending urgent calls to action with uplifting stories of the pastors’ resilience and hope.
